Quality and competitive forensic support is required for the law enforcement department to ensure cases are effectively handled, said Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Pratap Reddy.

He was addressing the gathering during the valedictory of ‘Forensic Medicon’, the 34th annual national conference of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, at MCODS, Attavar in Mangalore on Sunday.

He said that, in places like Mangalore, where forensic science institutions exist, the Police are getting good support. But that is not the situation in many other parts of the country. Qualified forensic professionals should come up, which will in turn help the police in bringing light on different cases.

“Forensic professionals are doing a great job by helping law enforcement department, there by strengthening the criminal justice system in the country,” he said. There is no better way than forensic science to ensure punishment for the guilty.

He said that the forensic professionals should be more responsible in helping police to bring out the evidences. There required a change in the way of dealing with the victims. “What important is that there should be a collaboration between the police and forensic professionals in bringing the truth to light,” he added.

The new office bearers of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine took charge during the occasion. IGP also released a book titled ‘Atlas of Forensic Pathology’ during the programme.KMC Dean Dr M V Prabhu, Dr Suresh Kumar Shetty were also present at the function.
