Seeking Success

'I am a director's actor'

Actor Jackky Bhagnani flew into the City recently. Once he got here, he was taken straight for a change, since he was walking the ramp for a popular designer. “The traffic in the City is killing. I’ve barely had time to get a hold of things and I am walking the ramp. But I am used to such a fast-paced life and I like it this way,” says Jackky.

Jackky may be only a few films old, but he has had a stint behind the camera — as assistant director — and believes that this experience comes in handy when he’s working on his projects.

Although his last film, Ajab Gazabb Love, opposite Nidhi Subbaiah, was a moderate success, he oozes confidence when he talks about himself. “I would come across as arrogant if I start talking highly of myself. But I think my strength is that I am half pin-up boy and half poster boy. I could lean both ways rather comfortably,” Jackky tells Metrolife.

Jackky has started working on his next project, titled Rangrezz, which is a remake of Kannada film Hudugaru — in turn the remake of the Tamil film Naadodigal. “The film has been tweaked to suit the local tastes. Interestingly, I had a lot of people who were shouting out Puneeth’s name when we were shooting for the film in Mysore and I was wondering why people were calling me that — that’s when I realised that he had played the lead in the Kannada version,” shares Jackky. He further states, “I’ve never met Puneeth in person, but I’ve heard that he’s a great actor and people always relate actors to the characters that they’ve played.”
Rangrezz is directed by Priyadarshan. “The movie revolves around love and friendship; whether it’s easy to differentiate between the two or whether friendship eventually turns to love. And when it’s a Priyadarshan movie, you can expect love and  comedy in equal measure,” he explains. Working with Priyadarshan is not only a great privilege but a learning experience as well, observes Jackky. “I am a director’s actor and I always prefer to be moulded by the director,” he sums up.
