A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in a clash between two groups over construction of a drain at west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar, police said on Monday.

Vijay Kumar, an autorickshaw driver, lived with his family at Vikas Vihar block A. Police said Vijay had constructed a two-feet wide drain in the lane outside his house which was objected to by his neighbour Vijender.

Around 10 pm on Sunday, Vijay and Vijender had a heated argument with both threatening each other of dire consequences. “They informed their relatives and friends, and a scuffle broke out between the two groups,” a police official said.

It is alleged that the groups were armed with knives and swords. During the melee, Vijay was stabbed in his stomach multiple times, while two of Vijender’s associates, Sarabjeet and Joginder, were also injured.

Seeing Vijay collapse on the ground, the groups scattered and fled. Police were informed and the injured taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

“Vijay was declared brought dead, while two others sustained for minor injuries,” the official added.

A case of murder has been lodged with Nihal Vihar police station. “We have arrested a man named Jaswinder and a probe is on to nab the others involved,” the official said.
Family members of the culprits are also being questioned.
