Chemplast grab title

India Cements skipper R Ashwin was smashed for 69 runs in 12 wicketless overs even as his India team-mate Piyush Chawla grabbed six wickets to guide Chemplast to a 79-run win over India Cements in the final of the BCCI Corporate Trophy here on Friday.

Chawla’s six for 32 helped Chemplast dismiss India Cements for 188 in 45.1 overs in reply to the former’s total of 267 for seven.

Opting to bat, Chemplast rode on a hundred from Rajagopal Sathish (105) to post a competitive total in their quota of 50 overs. Sathish hit 13 fours and two sixes in his 123-ball knock. He was ably supported by Ajay Kudva (58), who hit six boundaries and a six.

Pacer Yo Mahesh was most successful bowler for his side and finished with figures of 4-53 in his 10 overs. Chasing a victory target of 268, India Cements lost two wickets in the first over of their innings with Arun Karthik and S Badrinath both dismissed for ducks by seamer Sandeep Sharma.

India Cements were tottering at 77 for six when Vijay Shankar (67) joined Ashwin (36) at the crease. The duo added 68 runs for the seventh wicket.

Shankar’s quick-fire knock came off just 57 deliveries including three fours and two sixes but he could not take his side to victory.

Chemplast received the Raj Singh Dungurpur Trophy and a cash prize of Rs one crore.
