JOIN USMinor among five caught for extortion
Five persons, including a 24-year-old woman and a juvenile girl, have been apprehended for kidnapping a Rohtak-based property dealer and taking Rs 10 lakh ransom for his release, police said on Tuesday.
Victim Maha Singh approached Kanjhawala police station on Monday after the accused demanded another Rs 2 lakh. Sandeep Dalal, Ajay Dangi, Ramesh Tiwari and Suman Jha were arrested, and Rs 7.86 lakh in cash was recovered.
“They took Maha’s photographs in a compromising position with a girl and told him that if he didn’t fulfill their demands, they will release the pictures on TV and in newspapers, and even threatened to kill him,” said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer).
Maha Singh told police that he was targeted after he began receiving calls on his mobile phone regarding a deal for a plot at Rohtak.
“They offered higher rates compared to the market rate and called Maha to Rohini on February 9,” Jaiswal added.
After meeting Sandeep, he asked Maha Singh to meet him the next day. On February 10, they directed Maha Singh to come near Rithala Metro station. On his way, he was intercepted by two persons claiming to be policemen. “They forced Maha to inhale some sedative after which he fell unconscious,” Jaiswal said.
On gaining senses, Maha found himself in a room cordoned by two policemen — one in uniform and the other in a khaki pants. Three others were also present there.
“They took Maha’s photographs in a compromising position with a girl present in the room,” Jaiswal added.
Maha Singh was forced to pay Rs 10 for his release. But Rs 2 lakh was demanded later with a threat that failing which, they will release his naked pictures.
Maha Singh, however, approached Kanjhawala police station. A trap was laid and three persons of the gang were apprehended when they came to collect the remaining extortion money. At their instance, two female members, including a juvenile, were held on Tuesday.
