The Morarji Desai Residential School run by the department of Backward Classes has been imparting education to the children hailing from rural areas. However, the teachers who have been imparting education at the school in Narkodi near Sullia have not received salary for the last 10 months.

No permanent teachers have been appointed to the school since it was started in 2008. The teachers serving at Narkodi were appointed through Nehru Yuva Kendra.
The teachers have not received the salary since April.

They do not get PF, pension or any health scheme facility. In such a situation, how to lead a life, ask the teachers.

With the efforts of Taluk Panchayat former president Suvarnini, Morarji School was sanctioned to Sullia in 2008. Initially, the school was functioning from Panja Government PU College hostel premises.

With the increase in classrooms, the school started facing space constraints. This forced the authorities to shift the school to a private building at Narkodi in Aletti village. The building of a factory which was shut down was converted into a school. At present, there are 204 children purusing their studies in the school.

There is one principal and nine teachers. The classrooms are only converted into living rooms by placing cupboards for sleeping during the night.

It is a challenge for us to take care for the boys and female students in a building, which does not have proper security, said teachers.  Owing to the lack of maintenance, even toilets are not in good condition. The department has not even paid the rent for the building.

Though the government has sanctioned five acres land for the school at Panja, it has not released any amount for the construction of the building.

The school offers free English Medium education from sixth to 10th standard. The students were selected on the model of exams conducted for admission to Jawahar Nadovaya Schools.
