<p>A sub-inspector and a constable of Mumbai Police were attacked by a mob of around 20 people when they tried to catch Bangladeshi nationals staying illegally in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, police said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Mumbai Special Branch-I wing police sub inspector S Bandekar and constable S B Lande are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in suburban Mulund, police said.<br /><br />Acting on a tip-off, Bandekar, along with his team went to Mankhurd late last night where they caught a Bangladeshi identified as Mohammed Samshed, police claimed.<br /><br />During interrogation, Samshed revealed that some more Bangladeshis, who have been staying illegally, could be found in Kharghar of Navi Mumbai.<br /><br />Bandekar and his men drove their van to Kharghar where they caught eight more persons suspected to be Bangaldeshis. With further information, Bandekar decided to raid nearby Ovale village also.<br /><br />"Bandekar left the eight Bangladeshis, a constable and a driver along with the van at Kharghar and walked up to Ovale village. He was accompanied by Samshed, four constables including two females for Ovale raid," said a police officer.<br /><br />In the meantime, a group of about 20 people freed the eight Bagladeshis, then reached Ovale village and attacked Bandekar and constable Lande at about 2.30 am today. The other police were not attacked, police said.<br /><br />An FIR was registered in Kharghar police station, police said adding that further probe was on.</p>
