Police reject complaint against Kurien

Police in Kottayam have formally informed the Suryanelli serial-rape victim that her complaint against Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien cannot be taken up.

The Sub Inspector of Chingavanam police station in Kottayam district, where she had lodged the complaint, said in his reply that the legal advice he received from Director of Prosecution General (DGP) clearly stated that there was no scope to reopen the case as the “petitioner” did not have any new evidence to back her plea.

She had pointed to the disclosure by the third accused and the lone convict in the case that he had brought Kurien to her on February 19, 1996.
