The Chocolate Room’ at the end of Brigade Road is inviting in a lot of ways. The chocoholics virtually live there, for this eatery offers an enviable variety of chocolate dishes, shakes – you name it and it’s there.

Every conceivable dish in chocolate in addition to pizzas, burgers and pancakes — all tweaked and sunk into chocolate. The eatery caters to the taste buds of expats and the student community, who often hop in for a quick fill. The ambience is perfect for a casual chat.

Mahesh Madiyala, an IIM-A graduate, has no background in the food and beverage industry but he was keen on becoming an entrepreneur. “I had my own ideas of starting a business and that’s how I hit upon a place, exclusively for chocolates — a chocolate themed restaurant, where the main ingredient, in all the dishes would be chocolate,” Mahesh tells Metrolife.

‘The Chocolate Room’ is popular for the many exclusive dishes that Mahesh has thoughtfully researched and included in the menu. It is not a regular chocolate cafe but one where even your pizza would have chocolate toppings instead of cheese for instance.

The ‘Chocolate Chilli’ may seem like an unthinkable combination, at first but Mahesh has blend the two to perfection, “Chocolate served with chilli flakes. People, especially women, I am told have these cravings for chocolate and they can have chocolate in just about any form. ‘Chocolate Chilli’ is popular with women,” he says. The ‘Chocolate Pancake’ is an ideal chocolate dessert that is served with marshmallows, pancake and chocolate.

It would be impossible to list out all the dishes on the menu but the popular ones are the ‘Chocolate Shots’ which comprise warm molten chocolate served in a shot glass with a non-alcoholic flavours like rum and Baileys.

The ‘Chocolate Avalanche’, which is the fastest moving sundae, comes with dry chocolate sponge, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse loaded with hot chocolate sauce and topped with wafer sticks. There’s also the ‘Chocolate Pizza’. “This is a unique pizza which is made with chocolate pizza base, molten chocolate and other toppings.

Another dish is the chocolate/cheese fondue, where hot chocolate or cheese curry as per the customer’s choice, is served with a variety of dips,” explains Mahesh.

The regulars say that they wouldn’t want to try another chocolate joint for this place offers more than what a chocoholic can ask for. Mark, a student of St Joseph’s College, a regular, says, “The burgers are good and the variety in the chocolate dishes is truly enviable.” Smitha, an IT professional and a big chocolate fan, thinks, “The chocolate shots are my favourite. It gives me the much-needed choco kick. The portions are filling and the price is extremely reasonable. It is a must try joint.”

The Chocolate Room is located on the first floor, St Patrick's Complex, opposite the Eva Mall, Brigade Road. For details, call 9740968899.
