Five killed in road accidents

 Five persons, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed in four road accidents in the Capital in the last 24 hours, police said on Monday.

Two restaurant employees were killed when the bike they were travelling on was hit by a speeding truck on a flyover near AIIMS on Sunday night.

Manish, 22 and Aneesh, 24, hailed from Uttarakhand and were living at rented accommodation in Mayur Vihar. Both were returning home on the bike when a speeding truck hit them from behind. Due to the impact, both the victims fell and their bike got stuck in the truck. Police said soon after the accident, a passerby informed them.

“After receiving the call, police immediately reached the spot and rushed the victims to AIIMS, while another police team chased the truck,” said a police officer. Doctors, however, declared them brought dead.

Trucker Mohammad Shafiq tried to flee, but police nabbed him.He was arrested on the spot and a case was filed.

Minor killed

A 10-year-old girl was killed in an accident on central Delhi’s Desh Bandhu Gupta Road on Sunday evening.

Jiya lived in Karol Bagh. She was travelling with her grandfather Deen Dayal on a scooter when a speeding autorickshaw hit the scooter from behind on Rani Jhansi Bai Road.

“We rushed them to Lady Hardinge Hospital where during treatment Jiya succumbed to her injuries,” said a police officer, adding Deen Dayal is still undergoing treatment. The doctors said Jiya died of excessive bleeding and head injuries.
Police arrested auto driver Sanjeet Kumar and registered a case of death due to negligence.

Auto driver dies

An autorickshaw driver was killed in Sultanpuri in outer Delhi when his vehicle turned turtle after one of the wheel fell in a pit on the road on Sunday evening.
Kesar, 44, was returning home when around 4 pm, his vehicle turned turtle in Sultanpuri. He was stuck for a long time under it. Later, officials of a police control room van noticed and took him out. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries hours later,” a police officer said.

Student dies

A 20-year-old engineering student was killed and her friend was injured after the car they were travelling in turned turtle in Mayur Vihar on Sunday late night.
Nancy Taneja was a resident of Govind Enclave. She was driving the Maruti Suzuki Swift car and her friend Priyank Kathuria was on the rear seat. When the car reached Mayur Vihar Metro station, it suddenly turned turtle.

The victims were rushed to Max Hospital. But doctors declared Nancy brought dead and Priyank is undergoing treatment. Police found that the car was speeding.
