BJP Mahila Morcha workers showed black flags to chief minister Sheila Dikshit and raised slogans against her for recommending parole to two rape convicts lodged in Tihar Jail.

Delhi lieutenant governor Tejendra Khanna had rejected the CM’s recommendation.
Dikshit faced the protest at a Delhi government function at Talkatora Stadium to mark Women’s Day on Friday.

Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said it exposed the double face of the CM, who on one hand demands strict action for crime against women while she advocates parole to the rape accused.

Goel also handed over the documents to media in which Dikshit had advocated for granting parole to the convicts.

Dulichand son of Kalicharan was booked under IPC 376/365/366 and was awarded life imprisonment as he had committed rape of his landlord’s daughter.

“Seeing this heinous crime the district-level police had taken a stand against granting parole. But CM Sheila Dikshit advocated the parole,” said Goel.

In another case Harpreet Singh son of Amrik Singh was sentenced to life under sections 394/376 of Indian Penal Code. Again, going against police Dikshit had asked for parole to the convict.

Goel said, “This person had abducted the woman and after robbing and beating her, he had raped her too.”

“It is hard to believe that the chief minister who is every day harping about strict laws to curb crime against women in public, goes around advocating parole to the dreaded criminals of such heinous crimes,” he added.

Delhi chief secretary D M Spolia said the CM and home secretary had recommended parole on the basis of favourable report forwarded by the Tihar jail authorities.

“Parole recommendations are made after the jail authorities observed that the conduct of the convicts is good. So Dikshit and the home secretary, Arvind Ray, made the recommendation.”

About 200 workers, led by Sikha Rai president of Delhi state BJP Mahila Morcha, reached Talkatora Stadium and shouted slogans against the chief minister while she was on her way to attend the function.
