Slain cop had a list of 47 cases against Bhaiya

Seven months before he was brutally killed, Kunda DSP Zia-ul-Haq had prepared a history-sheet of the sacked Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, and had listed around 47 cases against him including those of murder.

According to sources, Haq, who had been transferred to Kunda in July, got the history-sheet prepared and released while he was investigating a case involving Raja Bhaiya’s supporters.

In June, several houses belonging to a particular community had been torched after a gang-rape at Asthan village in Kunda, and Haq was investigating the case.
According to the history-sheet, 47 criminal cases were pending against Raja Bhaiya. Of these 23 were registered at Kunda Kotwali.

The cases ranged from murder to attempt-to-murder.

The revelation assumes significance in the light of allegations by the slain cop’s wife, Parveen Azad, that her husband had been investigating cases in which Raja Bhaiya’s supporters were involved.

She had also said that Haq was under pressure but never gave in.

Parveen had alleged that her husband was killed by Bhaiya’s henchmen.

“My husband never went to Raja’s darbar (court) to offer his respect. I think that is why he was killed,” she had alleged almost immediately after his killing.

“Raja Bhaiya’s writ runs in Kunda. The people are like rats. They never raise their voice against him. My husband, however, did not bow to the political bosses and he paid the price,” she had said.

Raja Bhaiya had candidly said that he would have got the DSP “transferred rather than murdered” if he had any “problem” with him.

Impartial investigation

Parveen has now demanded that the CBI team, which is investigating the case, should not have any member from the agency’s Lucknow office as they may not be impartial.

She has also demanded that the trial should be held outside UP and a fast-track court should hear the matter.

Raja Bhaiya has claimed innocence and said that Haq had been killed in retaliatory fire after a cop shot at one of the villager’s killing him on the spot.
