The construction work of underground Majestic interchange station has gathered pace. A visit to the work site shows that the basic structure for the inter change station is taking shape.

According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, half the excavation has been completed. At the area where the Bangalore City Station is coming up, 224 metre of base slab out of 240 metre has been constructed and 72 metre of platform slab has been done.

Regarding tunnels, the east tunnel work heading towards Reach 1 is complete till Vidhana Soudha. Tunneling from South ramp to Majestic has begun and TBM (Kaveri) for North Bound Tunnel has progressed up to 210 metre. Second TBM (Krishna) for south bound tunnel has progressed up to 188 metre. Tunneling at remaining routes needs hastening, he added.

However, work at Vidhana Soudha station has slowed down as the Dr Ambedkar statue is yet to be shifted. As of now, 1,43,370 cubic metre of soil and 30,789 cubic metre of rock has been excavated, he said.

Meanwhile, BMRCL has earned the trust of people in handling lost property. In February, a security guard Sampath, while checking the train at Byappanahalli station  found a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone.

It was handed over to Abhijit, a commuter, who had reported it missing. Another passenger Tushar Kapila, who boarded the train at MG Road station had left behind his back pack, containing Rs 11,700 in cash. Security guard S Topno ensured that it reached the owner, he added.
