Social activist Anna Hazare has stressed the need to bring the Police department too under the purview of the Lokayukta.

Speaking at a function held by the Dharwad Growth Centre Industries’ Association at the Centre For Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka on Tuesday, Hazare said that the police department was facing serious allegations of corruption at all levels.

“Bringing the Police department under the purview of Lokayukta will help check corruption to a large extent,” he said.

Hazare said the Centre was unnecessarily delaying the passage of the Lokpal Bill. He pointed out that if the Lokpal Bill was passed, more than 15 Union ministers facing corruption charges would be behind bars.

“This is the main reason why the Centre is shying away from passing the Bill,” he said.

Earlier, speaking at an interaction programme with farmers at Thontadarya Mutt in Gadag, Hazare urged the Union government to take steps to provide pension to farmers in the country, he said.
