7-member dacoit gang arrested

Vehicles, gold ornaments, weapons and police sub-inspector’s pistol looted by the gang all worth Rs 11.86 lakh have been seized from them.

Police said, the gang on August 16, had looted cash Rs 1.12 lakh from two employees of Shivmurthy Sanjuwadmath at Kappalguddiu while they were going towards Mahalingpur.
Kuduchi police station sub-inspector Anand Waghmode and four constables who had been to Itnal village from Raibag taluk on August 20, while investigating the dacoity were locked in a farmhouse and assaulted by the gang members. The dacoits had made away with the sub-inspector's pistol too.  The police were  rescued by additional police personnel.

The gang members have been identified as Gangappa Hullolli (23), Nagaraj Hunshyal (21), Laxman Hunshyal (23), Shrishail Hosatti (24), Babu Odeyar (36), Sadashiv Dange (24) and Mutteppa Dange (26) all residents of Itnal village.

During interrogation the gang confessed that they, along with Sadashiv Dange, were involved in seven murders, four dacoities, and three cheating cases in Belgaum, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Kolhapur and Sangli. Kuduchi police were investigating.
