Low-cost carrier SpiceJet on Monday announced an “early bird sale” for travel between January 16, 2015 and October 24, 2015 for fares as low as Rs 499, which includes fuel surcharge but excludes applicable statutory taxes and fees.

Seats are limited and offer is available on first-come-first-serve basis for the three-day sale, which began on Monday, a SpiceJet statement said. “The New Year is not too far away, and it is never too early to plan exciting trips. This sale will allow customers to enjoy fantastic low fares by planning their journey and holidays in advance,” it said.

“While the number of travellers opting for air travel during holidays has increased over the years, with the introduction of early bird sale, this number will grow further. This will encourage customers to make their holiday plans well in advance and save on travel costs at the same time. This will also allow and average Indian customer to plan for more than the typical one-holiday-trip during the year at never before rates,” Kaneswaran Avili, Chief Commercial Officer of SpiceJet Ltd, said.

Sharat Dhall, president of travel portal yatra.com, said SpiceJet has yet again taken an initiative to drive advance bookings by incentivising travellers to plan their holidays well in advance and save big.

“The low-cost carrier is leading the way in attempting to stimulate demand and growth in the market and we expect other airlines to follow suit. With the likelihood of increased competition in the coming months, Indian travellers can surely expect a lot more action in the air market going forward,” he said.

SpiceJet has been coming up with discount sales at regular intervals this year and competitors, too, have jumped in to the airfare war.
