Gowda blames Cong, BJP over Cauvery

Last Updated 17 March 2013, 19:35 IST

JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda on Sunday alleged that both the Congress and the BJP have let down the State on the issue of sharing the Cauvery river water with Tamil Nadu.

Speaking at a function organised to open the party office at Chikpet Assembly constituency, he said leaders of both the national parties behaved irresponsibly over the recent dispute with the neighbouring State, leading to repeated release of water from the State reservoirs.

The Congress which is heading the UPA government at the Centre and the ruling BJP in the State, have failed to protect the State’s interests.

As a result, there is acute shortage of water in the Cauvery basin region. Just because the elections to the State Assembly are round the corner, drinking water is being provided to people through water tankers.

The tanker supply will stop once the elections are over, he warned and added that only the JD(S) can protect the interests of the State.
