Android app for passport info, status

Last Updated 22 March 2013, 20:33 IST

The Ministry of External Affairs has developed an android app for passport services called ‘mPassport Seva’.

According to the Ministry, the app will provide smartphone and tablet users with a variety of services such as passport application status tracking, locating the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and general information on various steps involved in obtaining a Passport. “This will further enhance the citizen experience and help people in getting anytime-anywhere information on basic passport-related procedures and services,” a Ministry release stated.

The app is only available on Android OS 2.1 or later versions at the current time, although apps for the iOS and Windows platforms are expected to be available soon. The app can be downloaded at www.passportindia.gov.in and by selecting the appropriate link on the website.

Since it’s a non-market app, users will have to select ‘unknown sources’ in the application settings on Android, to allow the app to be installed.

Once the app is running, users have the option to track the status of their application, discover the nearest Passport Seva Kendra, district passport cell, missions abroad, police stations, use a fee calculator and obtain general information on how to apply for a passport.

Users can also track the status of their RTI applications through the application.
However, some information still needs to be loaded on to the app such as police stations for all districts.
