DSP left in the lurch by UP cops

In an incident occured during the counting of votes of the elections of the High Court Bar Association in Allahabad, UP, about 200 kms from here, a DSP was left in lurch by his colleagues while he was surrounded by a group of people and was allegedly manhadled on Saturday.

According to the reports, circle officer of Civil Lines area, Siraj Ahmed was on duty near the court premises along with other police officials when some people, who were in an inebriated state, surrounded him and roughed him up after a heated exchange.

The attackers reportedly manhandled him and also tried to snatch his badge. The panicky DSP shouted for help but to his shock found none of his colleagues anywhere near him. The official was also allegedly threatened by the mob.

The DSP somehow managed to break free and made a sprint towards his official vehicles and sped away, sources said. The terrified official reportedly met his senior officials and apprised them about the incident and also about the conduct of the cops.

Senior police officials here were not forthcoming on the reports.

Barely a few days back, a similar incident wa reported in Kunda where DSP Zia-ul-Haq had also been deserted by his colleagues when he was surrounded by a frenzied mob at Walipur. The DSP was thrashed and shot dead by the mob. His bullet riddled body was found lying on the road side.

Two stations house in-charge and some cops had been suspended for leaving Haq in the lurch. They face dismissal from service if the allegations of desertion areproved, the officials said.
