Krishna wants to contest poll

Last Updated 25 March 2013, 21:24 IST

Former Union Minister S M Krishna is learnt to have expressed his willingness to contest Assembly elections scheduled for May 5.

While discussing with his followers, Krishna reportedly expressed his inclination to contest. If the party refuses to give him the  ticket, he has said, he is ready to campaign for the party candidates.

He has reportedly conducted surveys in Maddur in Mandya district and Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bangalore Assembly segments and also discussed with leaders from these constituencies about the chances of winning, if contested.

Krishna, who was sulking after his removal from the Union ministership, met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi last week and discussed the polls. However, sources in the party said it is unlikely to field any sitting MPs or MLCs for the elections this time despite many seeking tickets. Krishna still has a year left before his current Rajya Sabha term ends.
