Political activities in the district are taking a surprise turn as elections to the Assembly constituencies are nearing.

Former minister S N Krishnaiah Setty who is accused in a land grabbing case is now said to have met the JD(S) leaders for ticket. Earlier, he had evinced interest in joining the Congress. Since there was no response from the Congress, Setty, has met the JD(S) leaders, it is said. “Contesting from the BJP government may not be a good decision, as the party has always been in the news for various wrong reasons. Besides, his name too figures in the land grabbing controversy and this may deprive him of a ticket in the party. Hence, he is knocking the  doors of other parties,” say experts.

Besides, rumours are abound that Setty has secretly met JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy to discuss his poll prospects.

Setty’s move to meet JD(S) leaders has confused many of his supporters, it is learnt. However, to clear the air, Setty has convened a meeting of the workers near White Garden in the town on Wednesday.
