The India Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD) hosted India Fashion Summit in Delhi recently to promote young talent. Designers who piqued interest were Rajdeep Ranawat, Samant Chauhan, Sumit Das Gupta, Amit Talwar and Vikas Jain, Sanna Chandana, Rosy Ahluwalia and Alka Kumar.

Rajdeep Ranawat’s wedding collection, especially his anarkali suites, were a big hit. He teamed velvet floral print blouses with voluminous lehengas, and used zari, brocade and net in the detailing.

Amit Dasgupta’s collection centred around the goddess, Parvati. Using velvet on saree borders and in lehengas, he embellished sherwanis too with his favourite fabric, giving the outfits a rich, royal look. The peplum dress merged with a lehenga to add frills and thrills to the garment.

The faculty of Apeejay University showcased a vibrant collection. Sanna Chandana themed her contemporary Indian wear around ‘Girl Power’ and drew inspiration from Durga, the Hindu goddess. Samant Chauhan and Rosy Ahluwalia presented their couture line.

The young brigade got the thumbs-up from big names such as designer Rohit Bal, singer Shibani Kashyap, politician Raashid Alvi, socialites Ramola Bachchan and Alka Lamba, and former model Meher Bhasin.

IFFD also honoured designers, choreographers, photographers and make-up artistes in a glamorous award ceremony. Bharti Taneja was felicitated for 25 years in the fashion industry; Shekhar Sharma received the award for the most promising photographer; Javid Habib for best hair stylist; Rashmi Vermani for best choreography and Dolly Ahluwalia for most promising designer.

Kiran Kheva, founder and director, IFFD, said: “The month of March is dedicated to women. Women are excelling in all professions and the idea behind our theme was to acknowledge and recognise their contribution in the fashion industry. It was a worthy cause and the best way to underscore it is fashion.”
