Starwood plans to have 100 hotels in India

NYSE-listed Starwood Hotels and Resorts plans to have 100 hotels, including 11 in Westin brand, in the country by 2016, a top company official said on Saturday.

"We think, by the end of 2015 or 2016, we will have 100 Starwood Hotels in India and for Westin, that probably means, 11 of this (to be fully functional)," Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Westin and Le Meridien, Global Brand Leader, Senior Vice-President Brian Povinelli said.

"In India specifically for Westin, we have Jaipur, Bekal, Kolkata, Kandla and one more. We have five more Westins on development in India. Starwood has another 21 hotels on development...," he said.

The company, today inaugurated its sixth property — The Westin Chennai Velachery making its foray in the region. "It is the first Westin. But, there are four other Starwood properties in Chennai already. We see this as a market showing great growth and opportunity in infrastructure, commitments to the new airport terminal and the metro...", he said.

The Westin Chennai Velachery, with a capacity of 215 rooms, has 12,600 square foot of meeting and function space.It is the first of seven Westin hotels expected to be opened in 2013 across the Asia Pacific region. He said out of the 11 Westin Hotels, three would be resorts managed by the group. Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has 1,134 properties in nearly 100 countries and over one lakh employees.
