Chiranjeevi fan commits suicide

N Narayana Giri, 35, consumed pesticide in his house in Kottalanka village on Sunday. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead. His relatives told police that he was depressed over the poor show of the PRP in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Chiranjeevi’s party won only 18 seats in the 294-member assembly and drew a blank in the 42 LS seats it contested. As the rout of the party became apparent on Sunday, Chiranjeevi appealed to his supporters not to be disheartened by the defeat. He said he would rebuild the party and overcome the weaknesses.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected PRP legislators met here on Monday and elected Chiranjeevi as the leader of the legislature party.
