Produce Arshiya before court: HC

Last Updated 26 October 2009, 19:42 IST

In his petition, Khalil, a petty shop owner, claimed that Ramanjaneya and Shobhavati were their neighbours and his wife Gulnaz Begum used to work as a part time maid in their house.

Their daughter Arshiya used to accompany Gulnaz and they were very friendly with the neighbours. Arshiya used to spend a considerable amount of time with the couple.
Khalil alleged that after a while, the neighbours changed Arshiya’s name to a Hindu name and they refused to let her attend Quran classes. When they confronted the neighbours, they were threatened by the neighbours.

On September 21, Khalil took Arshiya to his mother’s place at Ambur in Tamil Nadu and left her there. Khalil alleged that Ramanjaneya, with the help of police, put him behind the bars till Arshiya was brought back. Arshiya came back on September 28 and the respondent took her. She has not been seen since then.

Khalil, who has four sons, said he lodged a complaint with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), who asked the respondent to produce the child on October 23, but did not allow Khalil to talk to the child. CWC also sent the child with the respondent, the petitioner claimed.

Justice Manjula Chellur has ordered the child to be produced in the Court on Wednesday.
