A sitting legislator in Bihar who, soon after his wedding, brought his bride home in a helicopter, may land in trouble, for during the “rukhsati” (a post-wedding function), his bodyguards allegedly fired several rounds in the air to make the occasion grand.

The Congress MLA from Bahadurganj, Tausif Alam, 31, married the daughter of the “mukhiya” (headman) of Barbatta village. But while redefining the trappings of a high-profile wedding, the lawmaker skipped the flower-bedecked car and took his bride home—25 km away from the marriage venue—in a helicopter which was specially flown in for the occasion.

The chopper, which remained stationed for over four hours at Barbatta till the wedding was over, was reportedly hired from Ranchi for several lakhs of rupees. The high-profile wedding, which saw a guest of over 50,000 people, was also attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, BJP Member of Parliament Shahnawaz Hussain, Congress Legislature Party leader and former speaker Sadanand Singh besides other bigwigs cutting across political spectrum. Nitish reportedly placed the wedding safa (headgear) on the MLA’s head.

Soon after the chief minister left the place, some of the legislator’s men allegedly fired several rounds in the air to make the occasion “stylish, memorable and grand”.
