Earning their rewards

special DAY
Last Updated 06 May 2013, 15:58 IST

As students stepping out of school and into college, Aakansha Pahwa and Jatin Garg had anticipated that their days in college would be regular – the only small difference being that instead of school they would be enjoying college life and making do with decent grades.

Little did they know that when they would graduate it would not only be as certified engineers, they would also top their courses and rewarded as Gold Medalists!
The dreams of these two were fulfilled along with 571 others from across disciplines, who were conferred with degrees at the first annual convocation of the ITM University.

Though it was the 13th year of degree distribution, this was the first time that the University celebrated its Convocation Day, which made the experience of the enthusiastic graduates very
memorable.

It was a day of fulfillment and fruition for these students who returned to their alma mater with zeal and vigour to receive their degrees. Among the students who were awarded degrees were 511 B Tech pass outs, 29 M Tech, 30 MBA and 3 LLM.

The function was presided over by Justice AK Patnaik as the chief guest. Through his words of wisdom, he inspired the students to excel in their profession and must also remember their social responsibility.

The campus was filled with joy as alumni collected their degrees and rejoiced while sharing memorable moments with their friends and families. While Jatin Garg’s mother could not stop raving to everyone about her son’s gold medal, Aakanksha experienced mixed emotions.

Jatin shares that his first day at college was special as he was entering an engineering college. “Making new friends and exploring the campus consumed most part of my first day,” he recollects and adds that then came the day when, “my teachers announced that I had won a Gold. Acquiring third position in school was normal but topping the University was like a dream come true,” he adds sharing that while he has joined his family business at present, he aims to start his own manufacturing unit for chrome fittings of automobiles.

While Jatin is clear about his goal, Aakanksha has
temporarily taken up a job with Tata Consultancy Services. “The first time I came to ITM five years back, I didn’t know a thing about engineering. This university taught me all. I got help from my teachers and friends and I am happy to have received the Gold. But I expected the university to promote the meritorious students for further studies like other universities are doing at present,” she reasoned.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Prem Vrat, vice chancellor of ITM University lauded the achievement of three of the institution’s engineering students who have secured top ranks at the Maharishi Dyanand University (MDU) Rohtak, with which ITM was hitherto affiliated. “Aakanksha Pahwa of Electronics and Instrumentation, Lokesh Choudhary from the Department of Civil Engineering and Yatin Garg of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, have topped over 70 engineering institutions, affiliated to the Maharishi Dyanand University. In fact, most of the top 20 positions in MDU have been secured by our students,” he
proudly announced.
