In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly hacked to death his own father to get a government job on compassionate ground in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli district, about 80 kilometers from here.

Although the incident had occurred about a fortnight back, the police cracked the case on Sunday and arrested the accused, according to the police sources here. According to the reports, Dayashankar Trivedi, a resident of Saraisreebux village in the district, was the headmaster of a government primary school. Trivedi was found murdered outside his home in the village a few days back.

Trivedi was sleeping outside his house, when he was brutally killed with some sharp edged weapon, the police officials said. He was due to retire next year.

After groping in the dark initially, the cops zeroed in on Trivedi’s son Dheerendra, who was unemployed. “Dheerendra was desperately looking for a job. He came under the scanner after we came to know that he contacted the concerned authorities for a job under the compassionate ground almost immediately after his father’s murder”, the officials said.

During interrogation, Dheerendra confessed to killing his father. “My elder brother was employed but I had no job. I thought there was only a year left for the retirement of my father. So I decided to kill him”, Dheerendra reportedly told the cops.

Dheerendra hit his old father several times with an axe killing him on the spot, the police said. Police said that the axe with which he had hacked his father to death had also been recovered. The accused has been sent to jail.

Earlier too, old government servants had been killed by their own sons in a bid to get jobs under the compassionate ground. According to the rules, only one member of the family of a government servant, who dies on duty, could be given a job on ground of compassion.
