Sandwichwallas, a small fast-food joint located on EAT Street in Basavanagudi, is the perfect place to stop for a quick bite. The eatery serves a variety of tempting items, such as toasted sandwiches, small vegetarian pizzas and frankie rolls, as well as refreshing drinks which are a great way to beat the heat.

The eatery was originally started by a group of four friends but today, Karthik L B is running the establishment on his own. As the name suggests, the highlight of the menu are the sandwiches — they are toasted, rather than grilled, and available in 33 delicious varieties. These include the gulkand sandwich, peanut butter sandwich, garlic onion sandwich, chilli babycorn sandwich and most famous cheese chilli sandwich. “The sandwiches are very tasty,” says Pooja, who dropped in to the eatery with her friends Meghana and Rachana. The items are priced between Rs 15 and Rs 35, making this joint a favourite with college students.

“We started this eatery a year and a half ago with only sandwiches and chaats. Later on, we conducted a survey and decided to add pizzas and garlic bread to the menu. Soon, more customers started pouring in,” says Karthik. “The garlic bread is unique — it’s one of the hot favourites among the customers,” he adds. The mini-Indian pizzas, served hot in five minutes, are a popular option as well.

The most recent addition to the menu is a range of cold coffee for the summer, which is becoming a rage. The other cold drinks on the menu include flavoured lassis with kiwi, mango, blackcurrant and pistachio; a total of 11 varieties of milkshake, including Oreo, rose milk and ‘sandwichwalla special’ as well as coolers like sodas and flavoured fizzy drinks.

“Here, you can get inexpensive pizzas, which are as delicious as the ones at larger chains. The eatery is small but hygienic and a nice place to chill,” says Shubham Baliya, a student who frequents it. All the food and drinks are freshly prepared after being ordered and despite the many eateries in the area, this establishment manages to remain quite popular.
