Describing the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh as a ''holocaust'', Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said despite the ultras threat, the government will continue its developmental works in the backward region of the country.

Condemning the “barbaric incident,”  Ramesh felt the killing of the senior Congress leaders of the state was a big blow for the party but it would rise to the challenge.

Jairam, who was also active in the Congress party’s Parivarthan Yatra in the state, participated in several public rally in the tribal region of the state along with the killed leaders.

“What happened in Chhattisgarh was a holocaust. I was with my friends Nandkumar Patel, Kawasai Lakma, Mahendra Karma (the slain leaders) on Thursday in Bijapur district. Before leaving, I had promised to rejoin them very soon. I did not expect, anticipate or imagine the massacre that took place,” Ramesh told reporters.
