JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday termed as childish Tamil Nadu government's move to file a suit in the Supreme Court, seeking around Rs 2,500 crore as damages from Karnataka, for the loss of 'samba' and 'kuruvai' crops, owing to the non-release of water as per the order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Speaking to reporters, he questioned the Tamil Nadu government's approach to encourage farmers to grow crops in the delta region while knowing fully well that there was going to be shortfall of rain and Karnataka had problems on the drinking water front.

“Instead of filing a suit in the Supreme Court, it would have been better if she (Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha) had filed a petition before the rain gods,” he said.

Kumaraswamy said it would be a privilege for him to serve as Leader of the Opposition and that he would take all members on the Opposition benches into confidence, while discharging his duties.
