Just before the onset of monsoon, hot weather conditions made a comeback in Odisha on Wednesday with the highest day time temperature hovering above 40 degree Celsius at many places.

During the day, maximum temperature of 42.2 degree Celsius was recorded at the coal township of Talcher in coastal Angul district followed western Odisha town of Sambalpur(42.1 degree Celsius). Four more towns  all in western Odisha recorded maximum day time temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more. They are Hirakud(40.5), Bolangir(40), Titilagarh(41.6) and Sonepur(40.5).

On Wednesday, the highest day time temperature was 38.8 degree Celsius in capital city Bhubaneswar. Though the temperature remained below 40 degree Celsius at many places, increased level of humidity had made life miserable for residents, particularly in Bhubaneswar. The humidity level in capital city was as high as 92 per cent.

Officials in the local weather office, however, said the hot weather condition was not unusual. “The weather usually remains hot and humid just before the arrival of the monsoon.

This is not unusual,” the duty office at the local weather office P K Bal said. In fact, he said, some of the western Odisha towns which had recorded higher day time temperature on Wednesday had already experienced rain and thundershower in the evening. “The coastal areas may also see similar weather conditions tonight,” Bal said.
The monsoon is scheduled to arrive in Odisha in the next few days.
