Woman washed away in M'lore

A woman was washed away while crossing a stormwater drain which was overflowing following heavy rains, at Attavara in Mangalore on Monday.

The residents tried to rescue Vimala, 50, but in vain, said sources.

A huge tree was uprooted in the market at Mani near Vittal during the heavy rains that lashed the district on Sunday night.

Sea erosion

Following incessant rains in the coastal areas, sea erosion was reported at Harawada shore in Uttara Kannada district.  The sea water has inundated roads which were 100 metres off the shore, leaving families of fishermen in the lurch. The stones laid to prevent the erosion have also been washed away by huge waves, said sources.  Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, Karwar, Siddapur, Yellapur, Joida and Haliyal taluks received heavy rains.
