“There is no alliance,” he said categorically in Delhi on Monday catching the Congress and the PRP by surprise. This development prompted the cancellation of the scheduled meeting between PRP chief Chiranjeevi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah.
While a defensive PRP maintained that it was not “running after” an alliance, two groups emerged in the Congress, one for and another against the alliance.
A third group suggested that the PRP merge with the Congress which was outrightly rejected by the PRP.
This turnaround is being attributed to the Y S Jaganmohan Reddy camp that felt threatened that Jagan would be sidelined should Chiranjeevi make up for the loss of the charismatic Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
This development is also being seen as the first success of the Jagan camp which managed to assert itself and convinced the party high command of its point of view.
