The State BJP Mahila Morcha unit has condemned the Manipal gang rape incident and has urged the State government to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

Addressing presspersons in Mangalore on Monday, BJP state unit Vice President Sulochana G K Bhat said that the “the crime must have been committed by those who were following movements of the victim.”

The government should ensure safety of female students and women in the State.
Sulochana said normally in sexual assault cases police complaints are filed only in four out of ten cases.

With the fear of being ostracised in the society, many families sort out the issue all by themselves.

“Victims who undergo sexual harassment and assault need counselling by professionals, to come out of the depression. The government should take measures to provide counselling to the rape victims.

The Supreme Court had directed the government to provide better medical procedures to rape victims across the country categorically stating that archaic procedures like the two-finger test violated the right to privacy of rape victims. However, such test is still being practiced.”

Urging the Central Government to set up fast track courts to try those involved in gang rape, she said “there is a need to punish the accused severely, so that other perpetrators of crime would not dare to indulge in such heinous activities.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit herself had said that Delhi is not safe for girls. In such a scenario, how can the Central Government ensure safety of women? ”, she asked.

Sulochana G K Bhat also favoured stringent punishment like surgical castration for rapist.
