'Computer operators sacked to streamline Palike finances'

Last Updated 05 July 2013, 20:21 IST

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Lakshminarayan has cited streamlining of finances as primary reason for sacking 290 computer operators besides stating that there was minimal requirement of their skills.

Justifying his action, the Palike Commissioner is learnt to have informed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, that computer operators primarily deployed in the BBMP help centres, have only 10 minutes of work and are not required for rest of the time. “They needed to be let go of to streamline the finances.”

Representatives of the BBMP Computer Operators’ Union on Friday, met Siddaramaiah at the Janaspandana programme to impress upon him their plight. They complained that the Palike has not paid them for almost six months and now they have no job.

Lakshminarayana explained to the chiefminister and the operators that the BBMP has already closed down 280 help centres as they were no longer required. However, Keonics will anyway, re-appoint them in other places. Later, Siddaramaiah asked the commissioner to have a detailed discussion with the computer operators to sort out the issue.
