Palike to finish widening work by next April; Techies major beneficiaries

The road widening work undertaken by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Mahadevapura zone is expected to be completed by April next year.

According to Palike officials, the project, which includes widening of eight roads in the zone, is expected to increase the prices of properties there after completion of the work, apart from improving road connectivity.

The Palike took up the widening work following a government order in 2012. The total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 35 crore.

Revised Master Plan

“The Mahadevapura zone is teeming with apartments and IT companies. We hope to finish the work by March or April, 2014. The roads are being widened as per the Revised Master Plan (RMP) 2015, drawn up by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA),” said B G Raghavendra Prasad, BBMP Executive Engineer, Road Infrastructure, Special division.

The BBMP officials pointed out that a few property owners might lose portions of their land to the road widening work.

“Till date, there has been no major complaint as we are convincing the owners to give up their land, by explaining to them the long-term benefits. The properties which will be demolished as part of the project will be included under the Transferrable Development Rights scheme.

“Through the scheme, the land owners who part with their properties will get the compensation (a portion of the value of their land) without having to sell their land. The reconstruction cost will also be borne by us under the scheme," said Prasad.

Traffic congestion

According to the Palike, the International Tech Park, Bangalore (ITPB), which is 18 km from the City, is visited by 75,000 techies every day and it witnesses huge traffic congestion near the Graphite India Road junction. Once the roads in Mahadevapura zone are widened, visitors and employees will be able to reach ITPB and nearby areas faster without hassles.
