Woman killed, 36 injured in mishap

A woman was killed and 36 persons suffered injuries when a bus collided head on with another bus,  near Gandhighar bus shelter in Mudigere taluk, on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased is Lakshmamma (65), a resident of Sakleshpura. About 10 persons who were injured seriously have been shifted to hospitals in Mangalore and Chikmagalur. A bus was bound to Mudigere and another bus was bound to Bangalore from Mudigere when the accident occurred. The bus which was bound to Bangalore has turned turtle following the mishap. The public shifted all the injured to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mudigere. However, there was only one doctor on duty. As a result, the injured passengers could not get proper treatment. At one point even the public were seen treating the patients by cleaning wound.

Looking at the apathy of the hospital, the public urged the government to recruit doctors at the earliest and expressed their displeasure over the government.

MLA B B Ningaiah who rushed to the spot, helped in shifting the patients to other hospital. The KSRTC disbursed a compensation of Rs 15,000 to the kin of the deceased on the occasion.
