On December 23, 1995, Rajaram Shervegar was killed over the setting up of Usha Ispat Company. Rajaram, an environmentalist had opposed the setting up  of the Company and was assaulted by these people.

Closure stayed

The vacation bench of High Court has stayed the Department of Education’s notification ordering closure of Mandya’s Infant Jesus Cottage School, on Tuesday.
The school had filed a petition questioning the Government’s order, which was issued on April 8. The Department had issued the notice claiming that the school was running Class 6 and 7 without permission. However, the Government had kept quiet on the matter since 2006 and has suddenly served the notice, the petitioners said.
The Government had also ignored its own No- Objection Certificate issued to the school on September 25 of 2007, the counsel on behalf of the petitioners, G R Mohan argued.
Justice Subhash B Adi granted an interim stay order and adjourned the matter.
