Belur bandh total, peaceful

The Belur and Sakleshpur bandh called by various organisations in view of the Tuesday’s bus accident was total and peaceful.

A majority of shops and commercial establishments remained closed till 12 noon, while holiday was declared for schools and colleges.  Members of various organisations took out protest march blaming the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation for the accident.

They alleged that poorly-maintained bus was responsible for the accident. A KSRTC bus plunged into Vishnusamudra in Belur killing eight people on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, expert divers fished out a bag containing a cash of Rs 50,000 from the tank. The search operation was conducted to trace out any bodies. However, none was found.The bag has been handed over to the police and the lawful owners can claim it by furnishing suitable documents.
The Belur police have registered a case against driver of the bus. He was produced in the court and released on bail.
