BJP zeroes in on poll slogan

The BJP is giving final touches to the slogan “Naya Soch, Nayi Ummeed” (New thinking, fresh hope) which the party plans to use during campaigning for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The slogan revolves around the party’s poll campaign mascot Narendra Modi.

Party sources said that once it is cleared by the poll campaign panel, the slogan will have to be finalised by the parliamentary board, the highest decision making body.
The catchphrase will be pasted alongside a photo of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and will be handed over to cadres for distribution. BJP president Rajnath Singh, who has distributed election work among more than 15 sub-committees, feels that the general election might be held by the end of the year. Party sources said that the slogan has been coined keeping in mind the fact that Modi offers new thinking through his politics of development.

Besides embedded in the catch line is, “Forget the past and look up to a bright future.”
Similarly, “Congress Mukth Bharat” (Free India from Congress) is another slogan the BJP has put together to encash people’s anger towards the UPA government built over the years due to corruption, poor governance and increasing cost of living, party sources said.

It is also learnt that Modi might follow former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s strategy of using e-campaign for personalised canvassing.

He plans to reach out to more than 860 million mobile users through a custom made software.

Party sources said that mobile phone users would hear a pre-recorded message in Vajpayee’s voice once they receive the call. The sloganeering would hinge around the party’s development plank and Congress’ misrule.
