The Karnataka police are now in the process of “tracing” a letter – found on the Government of Karnataka website (“sachivalaya vahini”) – suggesting the existence of an Indian Mujahideen (IM) unit in the City.

Intelligence officers said they are looking into the case. They said they are trying to establish the IM’s existence in Bangalore and flush it out. However, officials refused to explain further citing that the case was sensitive in nature.

Deccan Herald on Saturday published the content of the letter the subject of which read, “Regarding 6 or more members who are working for Indian Mujahideen and all are working very secret in Bangalore with financial support by Rizwan The Head (sic).”

Meanwhile, nabbed Indian Mujahideen member Yasin Bhatkal, suspected to be involved in many terror attacks in Karnataka, may not be brought to Bangalore immediately. Sources in the police intelligence said Mumbai and Delhi police may seek Bhatkal’s custody before he can be handed over to the Karnataka police.

According to intelligence, Yasin is the third in the hierarchy of three suspected terrorists from Bhatkal.
