Two hardcore Maoists, a man and his sister, involved in many offences were arrested from Chengjharan jungles in Odisha's Sundargarh district today, police said.

The brother-sister duo, identified as Anita Majhi (21) and Chitta Majhi (28) hailing from neighbouring Jharkhand, was arrested during a combing operation by the security forces near the forest in Bisra area, police said.

Chitta was allegedly involved in killing Laxman Kissan, a constable of the state police, during an encounter in 2010 near San Ramloi, a senior police official said.

Similarly, Anita was allegedly involved in the murder of Kandri Lohar, a surrendered woman Maoist who had joined the mainstream and was absorbed in the home guard, police said, adding Kandri had surrendered before Sundergarh police.

Both the ultras were actively involved in the Maoist organisation for a long time.
