Election to 25 Council seats

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is learnt to have directed his cabinet colleagues on Wednesday to start preparations for the forthcoming elections to 25 Legislative Council seats from the local body constituencies.

The CM is said to have informed all ministers that the office of the chief electoral officer (OCEO) is likely to issue the notification in this regard by this month end, and the polls would be held by December end.

The term of 24 Council members representing local body constituencies will end on January 5, 2010. These include four from the ruling BJP, 19 from the Congress and one from the JD(S). One seat is already vacant. Besides, the term of three nominated MLCs will end on January 30, 2010. Yeddyurappa also learnt to have hinted that the much delayed elections to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) would be held in January 2010.
