Unable to bear the ragging by her seniors, 18-year-old Pranali Rahane, an apprentice at multinational company Bosch, on Tuesday succumbed to injuries sustained after she cut her veins and hung herself.

Senior Police Inspector of Indira Nagar Police Station Ramesh Yadav told Deccan Herald that 10 trainees, including four girls, have been taken into custody under Section 4 of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act,1999 and Section 306 (Abatement of Suicide) under the Indian Penal Code.

They have been remanded in police custody till September 7. According to the police, on Sunday evening, Pranali Rahane was rushed to a private hospital after her relatives found her hanging with a dupatta twirled over a ceiling hook and blood dripping from her wrists.
The news of an attempt to suicide by a girl stemming from ragging shook the industrial town. The local media stated that Pranali took the extreme step at her house in Suchita Nagar when she was alone with her grandmother.

A note was found in her room wherein Pranali had written down names of 10 senior students who had been hurling barbs and abuses at her since the day she joined two years ago, the police said.

The victim’s father, Pradeep Rahane, demanded stringent action. The victim had in the past complained several times about harassment by her seniors.
