Kick that exposed quality of Palike work

With a kick here and there, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner M Lakshminarayana along with Mayor B S Satyanarayana, brought down an entire portion of footpath wall on Mysore Road on Friday. No, this was not a demolition drive but an inspection drive to check the quality of works.

The Commissioner was also joined by engineers and Standing Committee members in his “effort” which exposed the substandard work. and appalling condition.

The Mayor was also disappointed to see heaps of debris piled up on cross roads of the Mysore Road and ordered the local engineers to clear them by evening. Satyanarayana said that despite Palike commissioner’s earlier order to engineers, the latter did not bother to clear the trash.

People who had gathered there requested the Mayor to build a public toilet besides Christian burial ground on the Ashwatha Katte Road.

Observing Bescom transformers on both sides of Mysore Road, the Mayor instructed the Bescom officers, present there, to replace them with single pole transformers. He added that the present transformers were an obstacle for the construction of roadside drainages.

New deadline

The Mayor rapped up the local engineers and the contractors for inordinate delay in the widening of the road from Sirsi Circle Flyover to Gali Anjaneyaswamy Temple. He said that the project was going on for the past three years and this time, they had to finish the work by November.

The contractors, however, assured the Mayor of completing the work within the deadline provided the BSNL and BWSSB finished their part of the works at the earliest.

“The contractors should see to it that the work is complete by November or else their payments would be withheld and their names blacklisted,” added Mayor. Palike Commissioner M Lakshminarayana said it was the final warning to contractors.

Executive Engineer (Road and Infrastructure) requested the Mayor to build a water tank at a portion of the Muslim burial ground on the Mysore Road which has been acquired by the Palike for the road widening project.
