Mamata proposes coach factory at Singur

“The Railways is ready to set up the country’s largest coach factory in joint venture with the State Government. If the government gives us 1,000 acres, we will set up the factory in 600 acres, and the rest of the land will be returned to the unwilling farmers,” she told reporters.

Banerjee said the proposed project could also follow the public-private partnership model. Her proposal came after the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee roped in the public sector BHEL to set up a 1,600 MW power plant on the site in Hooghly district.
