SARAS prototype-3 to fly by 2010

The final certification of the aircraft is expected to take place by December 2011

The cluster will comprise the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (InStem) and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP). Both, the Central and State governments have joined hands to set up the Bangalore Bio-cluster at the GKVK campus of the University of Agricultural Sciences.

Contrasting the classical model where individual scientists establish groups that work on specific areas of research, InStem, adjacent to the NCBS, will encourage inter-disciplinary work right off the bat. Faculty will be inducted based on their scientific credentials and inventiveness of their collaborative purposes.

InStem will put special emphasis on translational and clinical stem cell research by building on the existing links with the Centre for Stem Cell Research at Christian Medical College, Vellore.

On the other hand, C-CAMP will act as the provider and developer of technology and enabler of scientific activity and entrepreneurship. All the three members of the Bangalore Bio-cluster will share space, individuals, facilities and ideas.
