The Junior National athletics championships, scheduled in Bangalore from October 15 to 19, has been postponed to December.

The decision was taken as the Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) will be busy with their election process during the period.

The much-delayed elections are to be held on October 26, with the calendar of events to be published soon, KAA sources said.

The new dates for the Junior Nationals will be announced soon, according to Athletics Federation of India secretary C K Valson. “We want to make sure that the event does not clash with the School Games Nationals. Most probably it will be held in the first week of December,” he said. “We also had to take into consideration the All-India Inter-University Championships which is scheduled in the last week of December.”

The KAA elections should have been held last year but got postponed due to various reasons and almost scuppered the participation of Karnataka athletes in the Open National Championships in Ranchi last month.

The AFI then gave an ultimatum to KAA to hold the elections quickly, leading to a quickening up of the process.
