5 elevated as High Court additional judges

Five district judges, including the High Court Registrar, were elevated as the additional judges of the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday.  

They are: A V Chandrashekhar, director of the Bangalore Mediation Centre; Ratnakala, the principal judge of the City Civil Court; P D Waingankar, the administrator of the High Court;  K N Phaneendra, the principal judge of the Tumkur Civil Court and Registrar of the High Court R B Budihal. 

The swearing-in ceremony of the judges is likely to take place on October 24. President Pranab Mukherjee had cleared these five names recommended by the collegium of judges of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam, for appointment of judges of the Karnataka High Court.

With their appointment, the strength of judges in the High Court will go up to 40 as against the sanctioned strength of 60.
